Peanut Bold
If you pick up a peanut at random, chances are it will be a Runner. Also called Bold peanuts, they are the most widely cultivated variety worldwide, particularly in the Western Hemisphere.
Runner peanuts share many characteristics with Virginia peanuts and are primarily used in bulk processing, such as for oil extraction, roasting, and blanching. With numerous subspecies, their cropping cycles range from 120 to 160 days, and there’s even a High Oleic variant, which offers 30-40% more monounsaturated fat.
Thanks to their high yield and strong market demand, Runners are favored in large-scale mechanized farming. Their nutty flavor, high protein content, and jumbo size make them a popular snack in the EU, a key ingredient in peanut butter in the US, and a major oil source in Asia. Even split peanuts are put to good use as a sustainable and nutritious bird feed.
